Today we'll talk about some homemade coconut oil recipes to prepare shampoos, balms and masks for dry and damaged hair. During spring time days are getting longer, and finally we can have the chance to spend more time outside. This season, however, does not only bring a pleasant spring heat but also windy days with sudden temperature leap. How can we protect our hair and fix the damages caused by stress, wind and exhausting treatments?

Natural remedies for dry and damaged hair

Hair dryer, hair straighteners, and atmospheric agents can severely damage our hair and make them look dry and extinguished. Dry hair tend to break easier, it becomes fragile and often it goes to the dreadful split ends. The best thing to do is letting your hair dry naturally. But if the temperature still doesn't allow us to, we can follow these few simple steps to contain the situation. For example we can tampon, after washing, wet hair with a towel and pack it up in a soft turban, leaving it for as long as possible. If drying with the hair dryer is still necessary, remember to:

  • Apply thermally-protective spray beforehand;
  • Keep a distance of 15-20 cm between your hair and the flow of hot air;
  • Limit as much as possible the use of hair straighteners by opting for less invasive methods.

If you want to get a catchy natural wavy look you can hook your hair into one or more braids before sleeping. In order to discipline and hydrate your hair, you can use balms or pre-wash hair conditioning treatment.

Coconut oil: a precious ally to nourish and soften your hair

These recipes are mainly made using a natural ingredient, not only tasteful for eating, but also for taking care of our hair: coconut. Coconut oilis obtained from the dried pulp of the fruit, which is rich in moisturizing, unraveling and fortifying properties. It's a precious concentrate of essential vitamins and minerals, and it's available in any supermarket and in herbalist's shops.

Our hydrating and reconstituting shampoo can be made in advance and stored for no longer than a month in comfortable plastic bottles outside the fridge. Egg and coconut oil mask to regenerate damaged and exhausted hair

Atmospheric agents and particularly aggressive treatments can seriously damage even the strongest hair. However, we can take remedial action with a repairing maskwhich can revitalize our damaged and exhausted hair. This protein and mineral salts concentrate contains:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 5 ml of coconut oil (or sweet almonds oil)
  • 15 ml of honey
  • 15 ml of yogurt.

The preparation is very simple. You just have to mix all the ingredients, apply the compound on wet hair and wrap it in a transparent film layer. Keep the wrap for about an hour, then rinse it by doing a normal shampoo with lukewarm or fresh water adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar.   • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil;
  • 3 teaspoons of our favorite essential oil.

Pure coconut oil against split ends

To complete our revitalizing routine we can use coconut oil in all its purity for a last minute treatment on dry hair. If we can't stop using the hair dryer, we can, however, avoid the opaque and dull appearance of the dry hair. For this quick adjustment you need to apply 2 or 3 drops of coconut oil to the tips of your hair and then gently massage also the rest od your head. Coconut oil gives brilliance to the hair and fights post drying issues. Coconut oil stays in solid state at temperatures below 20 ° C. It is therefore advisable to keep it out of the fridge (or anyway in a heated environment). If necessary, to heat it up, just keep a small amount of it in your hands before applying. However, if it is in its liquid form, we can store it in a spray container for a much simpler ease of use.
