HOMEMADE COSMETICS JARS: FIVE CHRISTMAS CUDDLES INTO THE JARS.
The winter cold can be very damaging for our skin, causing dryness, redness and dull complexion. So, how to deal with low temperatures without giving up a fresh and luminous skin? In anticipation of Christmas we propose you some natural recipes to get a regenerated and bright skin, which are easy to store in cosmetic jars and perfect for a last-minute DIY gift.
We have already talked about DIY recipes for skin care and invigorating products for our hair. But Christmas holidays mean especially one thing: sparkle! So let's learn how to give back light and nourishment to our skin with homemade natural cosmetics and some precious tips for making original Christmas gifts in a jar.
Nourishing avocado and jojoba oil face cream
The first cream exploits the natural properties of avocado(rich in vitamin E, which prevents the signs of skin aging) to give back nourishment to dry and dull skin. To prepare this face mask we will need:- the pulp of half an avocado
- 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil or almond oil
- 1 teaspoon of honey.
Almonds and yogurt scrub
Face cleaning should be done with regularity, preferably using natural ingredients that we can find in our pantry. For cleaning the skin from smog and traces of make up, we can prepare a cleansing scrub mask with:- almonds
- half a jar of natural yogurt.
Natural lip scrub with sugar and honey
Lips are one of the most sensitive areas to winter's cold, which often makes them dry and chapped. Before using the lip balm, you can make an exfoliating scrub to soften the lips and remove the unaesthetic dead skin cells. All we need is:- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- olive oil
- scented essential oil.
“Green” relaxing face mask
Give yourself a pause from the pre-Christmas hustle in search of gifts, finding time for a "green" cuddle. The ingredients for this relaxing face mask are:- half a glass of green clay
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- half a glass of mineral water
- lavender essential oil
- green tea.
Shea butter cream for soft hands
Are you tired of irritated, dry and chapped hands? In order to face the cold winter days with flawless hands, you can prepare a rich and nourishing cream with butters and essential oils. For this recipe you need:- 40 gr of shea butter
- 25 gr of almond oil
- 5 gr of cocoa butter
- 20 drops of lavender essential oil.

Christmas gifts in cosmetic jars: spicy bath salts
Fight stress with bath salts! A precious idea to treat yourself or your friends are the Christmas spicy bath salts. A relaxing and scented bath is the best cuddle we can give ourselves after an exhausting day. Bath salts dissolved in hot water give an enveloping scent but also help releasing muscle tension and eliminating all the toxins accumulated by the skin. The ingredients of bath salts are:- 200 gr of coarse sea salt
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of nutmeg
- 2-3 chopped cloves
- 2 drops of vanilla essential oil.
"Explosive" cuddles: homemade bath bombs in cosmetic jars
Another original idea for DIY Christmas gifts are "bath bombs". Invented by the english brand Lush, specialized in natural cosmetics, these scented bombs owe their name to the pleasant crackling produced when their ingredients meet hot water. Once dipped in the bathtub, the combination of sodium bicarbonate and citric acid produce a chemical reaction similar to an effervescent explosion. Spreading enveloping scents and soft colored foam into the water, they are a true spectacle for nose and eyes! Therefore these products are the ideal solution for those who want to treat themselves and friends with a relaxing and fancy bath. But these sparkling bombs are also very easy to make and can be a really appreciated handmade gift. To prepare bath bombs we need:
- 200 gr of baking soda
- 100 gr of cornstarch
- 100 gr of citric acid
- 2-3 teaspoons of coconut oil
- 20 drops of essential oil (relaxing with lavender and ylang-ylang, stimulating with sweet orange and bergamot, spiced with cloves and cinnamon)
- natural or food colors.
For the preparation, combine baking soda and cornstarch with the citric acid. Separately, melt your combination of essential oils in coconut oil, which makes the skin softer and hydrated. Incorporate the scented oil with the dry ingredients, and finally add the food colors (better if matched with the essence). Work the mix with your hands, spraying a few drops of water until you get a uniform and compact consistency. Press the portioned mixture with a spoon into ice cube trays or silicone molds. Then put the ice cube trays in the fridge for a couple of hours, and here are our DIY bath bombs!
